Set the Night Singing #2.18

Updated: Oct 14

The theatre – honest,

players don Sock and Buskin.

Players, we know

are all cloaked and wigged.

People in the real world, though –

– real players, all.

'Tis not masks, but smiles

composed to seduce.

Honest eyes shine honesty

plastically.

There isn't a motion

without any motive.

None slip alongside

without bearing an angle.

Trust: the holy fountain.

The chalice.

The pearl.

Trust: it's a sea-bitten city.

Who offers a hand

that is made not of vipers?
